Planar transformers are transformers used in isolated switch mode power supplies operating at high frequency. The transformers consist of stacked turns of copper foil (105µm or 210µm thick foil) connected to each other using multilayer technology. The planar transformer PCB designer increases the power of this type of PCB. The circuit range can be up to 24 copper layers depending on the design.

A backplane, also called a backplane PCB, is used to form a computer bus connecting several PCBs together and is usually used for test bench applications and, in most cases, it serves as an interconnection between PCBs without containing active components. It does, however, incorporate a wide variety of functionality.

Backplanes can be used for control and system reliability in industrial, computer and military applications.

The backplane consists of press-fit connections that are inserted by normal force and are necessary for the subsequent integration of connectors. These operations require a mastery of the drilling tolerances of the finished holes to +/- 50µm for the PCB manufacturer.

The baseplates are available in 3 materials: copper, aluminium, and brass.
