What is plastic metal plating?

The process consists in metal plating plastics by chemical means. It is made up of a copper deposit and an anti-corrosion finish, mainly tin or nickel. This plastic metal plating can be total or selective. It is used for electromagnetic shielding of plastic parts and for 3-dimensional printed circuit board applications made by laser ablation.

The different plastic substrates processed are:

  • ABS
  • Polycarbonate (Lexan)
  • Polyurethane
  • Polyester
  • Ultem
  • Ryton
  • Polymetacrylate

This represents 95% of the plastics processed.

Examples of use:

  • Aeronautics
  • Automotive
  • Defence
  • Electronic connections
  • Telecommunications
  • IT
  • Measurement

Advantages of the ARC3D process:

  • Superior shielding efficiency compared to conventional technologies
  • Uniformity of the deposit
  • Scratch and abrasion resistance
  • Adhesion quality
  • Selective or total deposit

Finishing options:

  • Anticorrosion
  • Weldability
  • Cosmetic
